My journey into trademark law began halfway around the world. Early in my career, I worked at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok for the USPTO’s Intellectual Property Attaché to Southeast Asia. I then joined Thailand’s top intellectual property law firm, where I helped household-name U.S. companies protect their trademarks across Asia. These experiences showed me how valuable and vulnerable brands truly are, no matter their size.

When my daughter was born in 2017, I decided it was time to build something of my own. That was the start of Brand Law Boutique. Since then, I have had the privilege of helping countless entrepreneurs secure their trademarks and protect the businesses they have poured their hearts into.

As the firm grew, I knew I wanted another attorney who could bring both deep expertise and a heart for client relationships and be a partner I trusted implicitly.

Enter Joan Ibsen.

Joan spent more than 25 years in the Litigation Department at a global Fortune 500 company, where she defended claims and lawsuits, counseled HR and management on employment law matters, and ran the Global Ethics Department as in-house Corporate Counsel. In that role, she conducted investigations, settled disputes, litigated major lawsuits and shaped the integrity of the company’s global operations. She also served as General Counsel for a national logistics company, where she managed the operations of the business and ensured compliance with state and federal regulations. She brings decades of firsthand experience in risk management, compliance, and protecting a business’s most valuable assets. 

Her career gives her a unique perspective on problem-solving and safeguarding companies through complex legal challenges, as well as the knowledge of running the day-to-day operations of a business. Today, she brings that same steady, strategic approach to the entrepreneurs and business owners we serve.

And she also just so happens to be my mom. That fun fact makes our firm unlike any other. Together, we combine decades of trademark and corporate legal experience with a family-centered approach that treats your business as if it were our own.
